Wednesday, January 3, 2018

Christopher Powell, 29, of Dyersburg died in a one-vehicle accident that occurred about 7 a.m. Monday on State Highway 89 at Boyd Road, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Powell was eastbound on Highway 89 driving a 2015 Hyundai when the vehicle exited the south side of the road, striking a swing set and causing the vehicle to overturn and roll. The driver was ejected before the vehicle came to final rest off the roadway, a THP Memphis District public information officer reported Monday afternoon.

Powell was traveling alone at the time.

The crash occurred in the southernmost portion of Obion County, just east of Trimble near the Dyer and Gibson county lines.

The death marks the first traffic fatality of 2018 in Obion County. By comparison, there were four traffic fatalities for all of 2017 in the county, with the first not occurring until May of last year.
