Spring sports regular season begins this week

The third and final part of the high school sports calendar gets underway on Monday as the regular season for spring sports teams gets underway in Tennessee.

Teams from Dyersburg and Dyer County will begin their seasons which will prepare them for postseason action in May and the road to the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro later that month.

There will only be two home games for local teams on Monday and both of them will be played by the Dyersburg baseball team, who kick off the Branham/ McNeil Memorial Tournament at Tom Mathis Field.

The Trojans will host Brimfield, Ill. at 4:30 p.m. in the first game of the tournament. Following that contest, Dyersburg hosts Lebanon in the second game of the day at 7 p.m.

The Tournament continues through Friday, March 16.

Dyer County’s baseball team will also get their season underway on Monday and will face a tough test in perennial rival Arlington as both teams head east to Nashville to play at Vanderbilt.

First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Choctaws will be on the road as well as the Dyer County softball team will travel to Jackson State to meet Scotts Hill halfway for softball action beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Dyersburg’s softball team will see its first action of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Chester County for a 5 p.m. start.

Both Dyersburg and Dyer County soccer teams will have spring break off before taking the field for the first time on Monday, March 19.

The Trojans will host South Gibson at 6 p.m. that evening while the Choctaws will host Ripley at 5:30 p.m.
