Historical Society to meet, Dedmon to host presentation on former City Drug Co.
The Dyer County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting Tuesday, June 12 at 5 p.m. at the PDC. A meeting of the historical society board of directors at 4:30 p.m. will precede the annual meeting. Both meetings will be held at the Professional Development Center, which is located inside the old Dyersburg High School building at 305 College St. in downtown Dyersburg.
The program for this year’s meeting will be presented by Danny Dedmon, local pharmacist and owner of historic City Drug Company, which was located on the northwest corner of the square for over 125 years. Danny plans to present artifacts, photos and a video that relates to the history of his store. During the celebration of the store’s 125th anniversary, Dedmon was quoted as saying, "It's about the relationship of this business to the history of the county. We've watched people go off to war and come back from war, everything you can think of, historically, that has happened in the last 125 years, we've had a front-row seat for. It’s pretty humbling.”
In addition to the historic presentation, the society will conduct the election of new members of the board. Historical Society members will be given ballots. Five new board members will be elected to serve a three-year term. The general public is welcome to attend and anyone who would like to join the society will be given that opportunity. Once they join, they will be able to vote in this year’s election. The Dyer County Museum will be open and refreshments will be provided.
