Choctaw golf falls to Covington in home match

After making the trip down to Savannah on Monday, the Choctaw golf team stayed closer to home on Tuesday, hosting Covington where the Dyer County boys fell to the Chargers by 11 strokes in a one-on-one match at Oakview in Newbern.

Dyer County’s top four golfers combined to shoot a 167 on the day on their home course while Covington stayed just ahead of them with a 156.

The Choctaws were led by Carrington Newell, who shot a two-over 38 to lead the way for Dyer County.

Ben Shelton shot a 42 on the day while Landon Mobley came off the course with a 43. Dalton McGuire rounded out the top four Choctaw scorers with a 44.

The top four Covington scorers were led by Scout Davis who came off the nine-hole course with a 34. Fellow Charger Luke Smith shot a 36 on the day.

Drake Whitmer ended his day with a 42 while Ty Warmath rounded out the Covington scores with a 44.

Dyer County returns to the course on Tuesday, Sept. 4 when they host Halls at 4 p.m.
