With the growing concern of COVID-19, the YMCA of Dyer County will begin operating with limited services on Wednesday, March 18 and has temporarily suspended all youth sports, child watch, group exercise classes, and programming until further notice.

On Tuesday, March 17, the YMCA of Dyer County issued the following statement:

“Dear Members & Program Participants:

“Due to the growing concerns about the Coronavirus, YMCA of Dyer County will operate with limited services beginning March 18, 2020. This difficult decision was made as a precaution, and under the guidance of the CDC’s recommendations about safe social distancing. To align with social distancing precautions, we are working to minimize unnecessary contact between people. These measures include limiting the number of members and staff in close spaces in our facilities. As a result, only the wellness center will be open at YMCA of Dyer County, which includes use of our cardio equipment and weights.

“Effective Wednesday March 18th, we have temporarily suspended all youth sports, child watch, group exercise classes and programming until further notice.

“Following Guidance of Public Health Officials:

“We have been in frequent touch with the YUSA, YMCA State Alliance, & Health Department and are receiving their daily updates. We are monitoring those updates for any changes in recommendations for individuals, businesses and organizations. In addition to the guidance we’ve already provided about good personal hygiene and staying home if you don’t feel well, local officials are also recommending that “at-risk individuals should avoid crowds and take other steps to protect themselves."

“’At-risk’ is defined as anyone over the age of 60 or anyone of any age with a chronic medical condition including heart disease, lung disease or diabetes.

“As you are aware this situation is changing by the hour, we thank you for your patience and understanding during these difficult and unprecedented times.
