Lunch is sounding better for local healthcare workers battling the coronavirus crisis. Although fast-food chains have closed their dining rooms, one area fast-food restaurant is offering curbside pick-up and it is free - to emergency personnel.

Chick-fil-A in Dyersburg now provides meals for those in the medical industry and first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mitch Fielder, owner/operator of Chick-fil-A in Dyersburg, said it was his decision to offer the meals to healthcare workers who face virus exposure daily.

“This is a way that we thought we could love and care for our community during this time,” he said. “These workers are on the front line of this battle every day, and we wanted in some way to say thank you for everything that they are doing.”

To promote COVID-19 safety for both employees and customers, the free food is to be picked up via the building’s drive-thru.

“Currently we have been offering this to any healthcare worker or first responder in the community,” said Fielder. “At times, healthcare workers have not been able to leave their place of work and they will send someone to get the meals for their department.”

Healthcare professionals simply have to show their employee ID or proof of employment to receive the free meal. The company plans to offer this discount until the virus threat is handled.

“We intend to continue this through the COVID-19 crisis,” said Fielder. “This battle to beat COVID-19 is being fought each day by our health care professionals and first responders. We just really care about those that are taking care of our community. We love our health care workers and first responders, and we love and care for our community here in Dyersburg and Dyer County.”

Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays. The company’s current hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Online orders are available for drive-thru, pickup or delivery by DoorDash.
