Local volunteer organizations plan to host a drive-thru food assistance program to help provide food to community members, while remaining socially distant.

“Feed the Need" will be on Thursday, May 28, at the Dyer County Fairgrounds. Food will be distributed from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to residents participating in the program.

Organizers said this particular event is for pre-vouchered clients only. Community members must have their “Feed the Need” vouchers with them at the fairground to receive their food boxes.

The food distribution is a collaboration of the Mid-South Food Bank, Matthew 25:40 and The Salvation Army. The food is subsidized through a United States Department of Agriculture grant.

To make the process run smoothly, organizers ask that participants stay in their vehicles during the distribution. Also, event attendees should have their vehicles cleaned out with enough space available for food boxes.

Organizers said community members with “Feed the Need” vouchers can pick up boxes for two families.

The first “Feed the Need” was held in November of 2008, with the purpose of helping Dyer County families in need bring food into their homes. Since that time, organizers have said thousands of local families have received food during the monthly distribution.

For more information, community members can call Matthew 25:40, at 731-286-9054.
