On Monday morning, Dyersburg City Schools Director Kim Worley announced students and teachers at Dyersburg Middle School will move to Phase 1 beginning on Tuesday, Oct.20.

According to Worley, there is not an outbreak of COVID-19 at the middle school, however, there are a large number of teachers currently being quarantined.

“Our goals continue to be the health and safety of our students and staff and the continuity of learning for our students,” explained Worley. “Unfortunately, it has become necessary for Dyersburg Middle School to move to PHASE 1 instruction from Tuesday, October 20 - Friday, October 30. There is no outbreak of COVID-19 at DMS.”

Listed below are the guidelines to follow for the next two weeks for all DMS students:

* Students in grades 6-8 will be assigned a device to take home if they do not have their own device.

* If your family does not have access to high speed Internet, Dyersburg City Schools will do our best to provide Internet access for your child. The Internet access will only work with devices issued by the school system. Our school system obtained this information during the registration process. However, if this situation has changed, please notify the school.

* Meals will be provided for our students during PHASE 1 instruction. Parents, please complete the GOOGLE FORM that has been emailed to you to help us get an accurate count for the number of meals to prepare. Pick up will be at the front of DMS from 10:30-11:00 each day. You may pick up both breakfast and lunch. There is no charge for the meals.

* During PHASE 1 instruction, your child will be responsible for signing onto their device every day for not only instruction but also their attendance. Your child’s attendance must be logged prior to 11:30 a.m. Your child MUST log in through the attendance icon to be counted present each day. Your child has been taught this procedure at school.

* Students are expected to have access to 6.5 hours of instruction each school day. This will include ZOOM classroom meetings, teacher recorded lessons, Google classroom instruction and assignments. Communication will come directly from your child's teacher(s). Teachers will email the student to notify them of the time of the ZOOM meetings.

* If you have any questions or problems throughout PHASE 1 instruction, you may contact the main office between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. They will direct your call to the appropriate person.
