Dyer County COVID-19 update for January 8

With the release of the Tennessee Department of Health’s (TDH) daily COVID-19 update on Friday, the department reported Dyer County as having a total of 4,506 COVID-19 cases, which consist of confirmed and probable cases. Additionally, the TDH said that Dyer County had 392 active cases with 4,035 recoveries/inactive cases.

The total number of deaths due to the virus was reported at 79.

TDH also reported Dyer County as having 3,566 PCR positive cases and 18,934 PCR negative cases.

TDH COVID-19 Dyer County Data Dashboard:

The TDH launched a COVID-19 website, https://covid19.tn.gov, which helps streamline and simplify some of the most frequently requested COVID-19 data. The site, which can be accessed for both desktop and mobile users, offers dashboards and daily reports with state and county-level information including case counts, hospitalizations and tests conducted.

As of 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, the numbers reflected were those from the previous day, Jan. 7.

Dyer County was listed as having 85 COVID-19 related hospitalizations. New active cases from Jan. 6 to Jan. 7 increased by 46.

The website also lists case counts and daily case rates from the following time periods:

- Most recent 7 days (Jan. 1, 2021 – Jan. 7, 2021)

224 case count; 86.1 daily case rate (per 100,000 residents)

- Most recent 14 days (Dec. 25, 2020 – Jan. 7, 2021)

431 case count; 82.9 daily case rate (per 100,000 residents)

- Previous 14 days (Dec. 11, 2020 – Dec. 24, 2020)

516 case count; 99.2 daily case rate (per 100,000 residents)

- Total (March 5, 2020 – Jan. 7, 2021)

4,478 case count; 38.8 daily case rate (per 100,000 residents)

Additionally, the website reported Dyer County has averaged 71 tests per day (191.1 tests per 100,000 residents) over the past 7 days.

The average positive percentage of tests, over the most recent 7 days, was 24.3 percent.

TDH COVID-19 numbers in Tennessee:

Statewide, on Friday, Tennessee was reported having 640,606 total cases, with 554,782 confirmed and 85,824 probable. Recoveries/Inactive cases were listed at 559,625 (87 percent).

Total deaths in the state were reported at 7,618 (1 percent), with 6,491 confirmed and 1,127 probable.

Under laboratory testing, the results were as follows:

- Test Type: PCR

640,205 positive; 5,149,497 negative; 5,789,702 total

- Test Type: Antigen

93,026 positive; 608,322 negative; 701,348 total

Tennessee COVID-19 hospitalizations listed by the TDH on Friday was as follows:

- 15,178 hospitalizations (2 percent)

- 222,977 not hospitalized (35 percent)

- 402,451 pending (63 percent)

Shelby County (Memphis) continued to lead the state in total COVID-19 cases with 71,590, while Davidson County (Nashville) is second, with 66,301.

Other Tennessee counties that have surpassed the 10,000 total case mark are Knox (Knoxville) at 35,907, Hamilton (Chattanooga) at 31,775, Rutherford (Murfreesboro) at 30,893, Williamson (Franklin) at 19,897, Sumner (Hendersonville/Gallatin) at 17,105, Wilson (Lebanon) 13,569, Montgomery (Clarksville) 12,922, Sullivan (Blountville/Bristol) 11,801, Washington (Jonesborough/Johnson City) 11,240, Blount (Maryville) at 10,905, and Maury (Columbia) 10,149.

In the counties neighboring Dyer County, the TDH reported the following results:

Crockett: 1,751 total; 152 active; 1,564 recoveries/inactive; 35 deaths

Gibson: 5,352 total; 459 active; 4,796 recoveries/inactive; 97 deaths

Lake: 1,495 total; 107 active; 1,372 recoveries/inactive; 16 deaths

Lauderdale: 2,780 total; 209 active; 2,540 recoveries/inactive; 31 deaths

Obion: 3,863 total; 333 active; 3,456 recoveries/inactive; 74 deaths

TDH COVID-19 Vaccine Report (updated on Jan. 4):

Tennessee has reported a total of 169,070 vaccinations, with 12,081 of those reported within the previous day of the issuance of the report. Of all of the vaccinations reported, the TDH listed Dyer County as having 3.19 percent of the Dyer County population partially vaccinated (1 dose of the vaccine).
