Dyersburg High School senior MaryLane Lawson recently signed to continue her softball career at the college level as the Lady Trojan will play for Jackson State Community College next season.

“I’m excited and I am glad I’ve been given the opportunity to lace up my cleats again and keep playing,” Lawson said. “I wasn’t ready to give it up.”

Lawson said the coaches were a big part of the decision to sign with Jackson State. But, in listening to the Lady Trojan, just being able to keep playing softball was a big factor as well.

“Just the opportunity to keep playing,” she explained. “And, it’s not too far from home. When I went on my tour I fell in love with the coaches and in love with the program.”

Dyersburg Head Coach Matthew Shearon said the Lady Green Jays are getting a dedicated softball player in MaryLane Lawson.

“She’s all in on softball and has been since she got here,” Shearon recalled. “She loves the sport and she loves being a teammate. She’s a really good teammate for sure.

“I’m really proud of her for the decision to continue her career and also the opportunity to do that. She’s worked really hard to get this.”

Shearon said Lawson is a very versatile player.

“She started as an infielder and, by need, we needed some outfield help,” the Lady Trojans’ head coach recalled. “She has done an excellent job for us. She can handle the bat really well at the bottom of the order.

“She’s earned this opportunity for sure.”
