Losing our Religion
Losing our Religion
Happy summer students! Even though it's summer I am still reading and studying. Each day I read about what's going on in the world today and my devotionals. Yesterday I came across that article that talked about the Post-Christian Era specifically in the United States. It was really depressing for me as I read it. The city that has the highest percentage of non-Christian believers in Tennessee is Knoxville, Tennessee. According to this study 28% of the people who live there have no faith base. I looked at the top 100 cities in the United States that are in the Post-Christian Era. I was very shocked. Boston, Massachusetts has a 56% no faith base. The question is students do we need faith in God? I realize that I grew up in an area known as the Bible belt and my views are skewed but something inside me tells me that we need faith. We need God. We need boundaries. We need the sacraments given by the church. Why? If for no other reason than structure because of the morality Christianity gives us.
My life has been so busy as of late. Visits from friends, attending daily mass, visits with my Grands, and cleaning out closets have kept me in a whirlwind. I have also been sad. Watching divisions grow in our country, my heart continues to break as I search desperately in my daily devotions and readings to find a way to bring healing in such a dark world. I am reminded of the sparrows and how they never fret because God provides. He provides for this broken girl everyday through friends, family, neighbors, and my Faith. Although I am trapped in a feeble body, my life continues on Earth. I am so very tired physically and emotionally. I yearn for the green pastures and still waters of peace but at the same time grieve an early exit. I know there is eternal rest and peace, but my work here is not finished. I just can't envision a world without Christianity and its gifts. The Light that Christians bear for the world is the hope that love will prevail against hate.
Students, do you want a world without Christian Faith? Do you want lawlessness? Do you want to be pleasure seekers no matter the cost? (Unwanted fatherless children, greed at any cost even that of people dying and starving, and no sense of love for your fellow man) Face it students, our family structure is a wreck in the USA. Why are so many children neglected in the "Land of Plenty?" We need dedication and devotion to our children. We need to start with our children to begin the healing. This healing cannot be done with narcissistic and materialistic behaviors but with sacrifices for their futures. Front row, what happens when no one is minding the store? That's right! They are pillaged and torn down. Our stores are our homes. I don't believe the media. I know people still love and need God. As long as I breathe I will work towards a better future for you my beloved students. Red, yellow, black, and white you are precious in His sight.
