Special to the State Gazette

The Dyer County Historical Society is moving its regular monthly meeting in February. The Historical Society normally meets on the second Tuesday of each month, but February will see a slight change. The Key Corner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution [DAR] has prepared a special display that will be held at the Learning Resource Center at Dyersburg State Community College beginning Monday, February 12. The Historical Society will attend this DAR event and also encourages the public to attend this unique learning experience.

To commemorate President’s Day, the DAR has prepared colorful panels that depict interesting aspects of many United States presidents. These include their wives, pets, hobbies, favorite foods, and the clothes they wear. There will be samples of First Lady gowns. This event will be on display throughout February and is called “America 250! A Presidential Stroll”.

While Tennessee has had three presidents, Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, and James K. Polk, Dyersburg has hosted a couple. The most recent was when Bill Clinton visited in 1996.

The public is invited to join the DAR and the Historical Society at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, in the Learning Resource Center. Memberships are available for the Historical Society
