Harry Andrew Kaplan

Mr. Harry Andrew Kaplan, of Dyersburg, passed away on May 8, 2024 at Dyersburg Health & Rehabilitation. He was born April 10, 1942 in Memphis, TN. He was the long-time operator of Kaplan’s Ladieswear in downtown Dyersburg. Later, he enjoyed traveling the region and teaching truck drivers through the local technical schools. Harry was an avid golfer and Mississippi State University Bulldog fan and member of the local Moose Lodges.

Harry is survived by his wife, Cheryl Kaplan, daughter Libby King, stepchildren, Gregory Yeiter (Kim) and Stacy Stewart (Chris) and his nieces, Jackie Wright Binkley and Melissa Wright. He was loved as “DaddyPop” by his grandchildren Austin King, Andi Bell, Alee, Katie & Natalie Jones and his great-grandchildren, Savannah King and Layla Cates. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe E. Kaplan and Violet Sturdivant Kaplan, his daughter, Lesli Kaplan and grandson David King.

Visitation will be held at Dyersburg Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Mr. Jonathan Symons.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the American Alzheimers Association at www.alz.org or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jack Bell

Jack Bell, 82, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died on Friday, May 10, 2024, at NHC Healthcare in Milan, Tennessee.

Born Thursday, January 1, 1942 in Dyer County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late C. M. “Red” Bell and the late Willie Alford Bell.

Mr. Bell was a retired Piano Restorer and avid outdoorsman.

Graveside services for Mr. Bell will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Ronnie Turner.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-five years, Nancy Wilson Bell of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one son, Mike Bell of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one daughter, Jolie Bell of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and one sister, Kate Wiley of Cushing, Oklahoma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Barnell Bell and one sister, Yvonne Rush , who followed Jack in death by several hours.

Honoring Mr. Bell as pallbearers will be Tommy Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Terry Wilson, Chuck Morgan, Blake Brewer and Patrick Williams.

James Roberson

James “Hardtimes” Roberson, 64, of Tiptonville, Tennessee, Tennessee, died on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis, Tennessee.

Born Sunday, December 20, 1959, in Ridgely, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Yvone Roberson and the late Gertrude Sellars Roberson. He was a former truck driver for Legacy and a former EMTA. Mr. Roberson was a lifelong member of Ridgely Church of Christ and a Dyer County High School FFA alumnus.

Cremation services for Mr. Roberson are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. To honor Mr. Roberson’s wishes no services will be held.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of forty-one years, Christine Mason Roberson; one son, James Macie Roberson II (Ashley) of Pinson, Tennessee; three daughters, Agusta Washington (Will) of Ridgely, Tennessee, Andrea Walley (T.J.) of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Nicole Cunningham (Stan) of Covington, Tennessee; seven brothers, Macie Roberson (Janice) of Tiptonville, Tennessee, Daniel Roberson (Sandy) of Hazel Crest, Illinois, Jack Roberson (T.C.) of Union City, Tennessee, Keith “Squiz” Roberson (Becky) of Hickman, Kentucky, Rodney Roberson of Ridgely, Tennessee, Raymond Roberson (Sissy) of Union City, Tennessee and Richard Roberson (Sam) of Tiptonville, Tennessee; three sisters, Polly Craig of Ridgely, Tennessee, Margaret Davis (Rick) of Ridgely, Tennessee, and Donna Rike (Joe) of Williston, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Taylor Bradford, Ethan Bradford, Remington Walley, Ian Washington, Kylan Washington, Mya Cunningham, Kayla Cunningham, Kiara Cunningham, Kyndal Cunningham, Jai’nyah Cunningham, Madison Cunningham, and Stanley Cunningham; and grand pup, Gunner.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by two brothers, Bruce Roberson, and Mike Roberson; one sister, Deb Roberson and two deceased granddaughters, Hannah, and Hailey Roberson.
