Dyer County golf tops Dyersburg to open season

The Dyer County golf team got the Lyle LaRue era underway on Monday with a win in both girls and boys action over Dyersburg at The Farms to open the 2024 season.

Lady Choctaw golfers Lilly Flagg (46) and Josie Ferguson (49) combined to shoot a 95 on the day to open the season, besting the Lady Trojans by a dozen strokes.

Dyersburg's Stella Madden led the way for the Lady Trojans with a 52 while Maddie Kate Wells shot a 55 to round out the scoring for the black and gold girls.

In boys action on Monday, Dyer County was able to take an eight-stroke win over the Trojans to begin the new season.

Choctaw golfer Hoss Harrison led the way for the orange and white with a 36 while Seth LaRue added a 38. Dalton Muncrief shot a 41 on the day while Seaton Clutts rounded out the DCHS top four with a 46 to give the Choctaws a combined score of 161.

Dyersburg was led by John David Morris with a 38 while Jace Ellerbrook scored 40. Ryan Wesson shot a 42 on the day with Brett Horner rounding out the Trojan scoring with a 49 to give Dyersburg a 169 score on the day.

The two teams return to action on Monday, Aug. 12 when Dyersburg hosts Dyer County for a second time in seven days at 4 p.m. at The Farms.
