Trojans, Choctaws take part in Saturday jamboree

The first of two jamborees held at Dyer County High School in a three-day span saw all three local middle schools represented as DMS, Northview, and Three Oaks traveled to DCHS on Saturday morning for the Johnson-Williams Funeral Home Jamboree.

Junior varsity action opened the annual jamboree and saw DMS pick up a late touchdown from Kenyon Gardner to defeat Three Oaks 12-8 in the first game of the day.

The DMS varsity team closed out its preseason in the following game as the Trojans began a string of three double-digit wins by local teams. The black and gold scored four times to take a 27-0 win over Ripley in the second game of the day.

Northview played its younger players in the third game of the day as the Choctaw reserves took care of business with a 24-0 win over Northeast.

The Choctaws from Newbern then let its varsity players close out the day as Northview took a 26-0 win over Halls in the final contest.

Northview and Three Oaks are scheduled to take part in the annual West Tennessee Athletic Conference Jamboree at Dyer County High School on Monday evening.

Three Oaks takes on Halls at 6 p.m. in the opening game of the evening while Lake County and Humboldt face off in Game 2 at 6:45 p.m. Northview then takes on Ripley in the final game at 7:30 p.m.

Northview and DMS will get the regular season underway when the two middle schools square off at Dyer County High School on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Three Oaks will also get its 2024 season started on Thursday as the Choctaws from Upper Finley Road host Fulton County at 6:30 p.m.
