Just two days after taking part in one jamboree at Dyer County High School, both Three Oaks and Northview returned to the field in Newbern on Monday night to close out their preseason schedules in the annual West Tennessee Athletic Conference Jamboree at DCHS.
Three Oaks opened the three-game jamboree facing Halls in the first game of the evening. With the two teams playing a pair of eight-minute quarters, the Choctaws and Tigers were scoreless through the first quarter.
The Choctaws from Upper Finley Road were able to get on the board late in the second half with a touchdown run by Xaveon Bowen. The two-point conversion gave Three Oaks an 8-0 lead. From there, the TOMS defense held the lead to secure the win.
Three Oaks Head Coach Chris Eaves shared what he has learned about his team during the preseason.
“They've learned to adjust,” Eaves explained. “We've had some guys go down with injuries and illness.
“They're stepping up but we're still trying to get all the pieces put together. They're doing a pretty good job.”
Three Oaks opens the season on Thursday night when the Choctaws host Fulton County at 6:30 p.m.
“We want to come out and show a lot of effort, energy, and intensity,” Eaves added. “We want to set the tone for the season.”
In the second game of the evening, Humboldt handed Lake County a 16-8 defeat.
In the nightcap, Northview and Ripley both struggled to score as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
Northview Head Coach Jason Stewart said his team needs to get some stuff corrected before Thursday night's opener with Dyersburg Middle School at Dyer County High School.
“I think our kids may have gotten a wake-up call today, I hope,” Stewart explained. “You never can tell. We've got two good days of practice ahead of us and we'll see what happens.”
Kickoff for Thursday night's opener between the Choctaws and Trojans is set for 6:30 p.m. at Dyer County High School in Newbern.
