Coming off a three-set win in Jackson at the University School of Jackson on Monday night, Dyer County’s volleyball team ran their early-season record to 2-0 with a dominating three-set win over visiting Lexington on Tuesday night in Newbern.

Lady Choctaw Head Coach Shanna O’Bright said her team is working it out offensively.

“We are running some strong offense one moment then give up a few points the next,” O’Bright explained. “But, it’s early and that’s part of it. We’ve got to figure out how to get our offense to work consistently all the time.”

Part of this could be due to players in new roles on the court for the Lady Choctaws.

“It’s always interesting when you put new people together,” the Dyer County head coach added. “I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far and I am looking forward to seeing us improve.”

Dyer County got things going on Tuesday with a 25-16 win in the first set over the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Choctaws jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set behind a Kennedy Hill ace. Junior standout Rylee Key accounted for multiple points including a pair of kills and a block to go along with a Teagan Reed ace to push the Dyer County lead to 11-3. From there, the orange and white cruised to a 25-7 win in the second set.

The Lady Choctaws then wrapped up their second win in as many nights with a 25-14 win in the third set.

Dyer County got its season off to a good start on Monday night, taking a three-set win over the Lady Bruins at USJ.

The Lady Choctaws won the first set 25-12 then took the second by a 25-16 score. Dyer County clinched the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third set.

The orange and white return to the court on Thursday when the Lady Choctaws travel to Brighton at 6 p.m.
