Dyer County got a shorter but busy week on the court underway on Tuesday evening and made it a quick first night as the Lady Choctaws handed Obion County Central a loss in District 13AA play in three sets in Newbern.
“We did a great job of running our offense tonight,” Dyer County Head Coach Shanna O’Bright said. “That was something that we didn’t do a great job of, in general.
“We did a much better job at the serving line and they stayed focused and played our game.”
The Lady Choctaws took the opening set 25-9 before fending off a tougher Central attack in the second set for a 25-12 win. Dyer County left no doubt about it in the third set, cruising to a big lead early on the way to a 25-6 win over the Lady Rebels to take the set and the match.
Moving forward, O’Bright added the Lady Choctaws have to be able to play their game and be able to compete regardless.
“We have to stay effective with our offense,” the Lady Choctaw head coach said. “Like, we have to stay effective at the serving line regardless if score is 25-2 or 2-25. If we’re up, if we’re down, we have to be able to compete.”
O’Bright pointed to what this included.
“We need to be able to control the ball on our side of the net,” O’Bright added.
Dyer County returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Choctaws travel to Jackson to take on Trinity Christian Academy at 6 p.m. The orange and white will also travel to Jackson, Missouri on Saturday for a round-robin tournament.
