Danny Evans

Danny Evans, 85, of Dyersburg, Tennessee died Tuesday at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Evans are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Wanda Lou Smith

Wanda Lou Smith, 65, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at her residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Monday, August 10, 1959, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Box and the late Mary Lou Lawson Box. She was an associate at Wal-Mart.

Cremation services for Mrs. Smith are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Mary June Tolliver (Lonnie) of North Little Rock, Arkansas; two sons, Robert Paul Coleman of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Chandler Michael Grady Wooten (Jenna) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one sister, Reba King (Jeff) of Newbern, Tennessee. She was "Grandma" to her two grandchildren, Dylan Stephenson and Abbey Wilcox, and three great-grandchildren, Marleigh Wooten, Maci Wooten, and Mason Wooten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don Allen Smith; one brother, Walter Leslie Box and one sister, Shearon Kay Miller.

Major Bobby Joe

Major Bobby Joe. Mayfield of Brighton, TN, 78, a retired Air Force Major, died Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Dee's Care Home in Cordova, TN. Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2024, 11:00 a.m.-11:55 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 584 John Hill Road in Brighton, TN. A funeral service will follow at noon with Pastor Matalee Hall officiating. Burial will be held in the Springhill Church Cemetery in Eaton, TN. Survivors include his niece Sherrie Elaine (Albert) Foster, Brighton, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Collis and Florine Mayfield, Sisters, Rosie Marie Mullins, Cora Louise Whitfield, brother, Joe Henry Mayfield, and nephew Jerry Wayne Adams. Retired Major Mayfield leaves extended family, a host of friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arrangements are entrusted to McCreight Funeral Home and will be announced later. Bonnie Jo (Abbett) Buchanon

Bonnie Jo (Abbett)Buchanan 72, of Martin, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her home on September 8, 2024. Visitation will be held at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home Newbern TN on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, TN.

Rev. Phillip McClure Sr.

Rev. Phillip Wray McClure Sr., born Dec. 11, 1939, to Brantferd and Marjorie (Jackson) McClure, left his earthly journey on Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2024, while a patient at Clinton Place Nursing Home. His loving and beloved wife, Vida (Guill), along with other members of his immediate family, were at his bedside.

He left behind his daughter, Janet Hopkins (Fla.); son, Phillip Jr. (Clinton); granddaughters, Robyn Vick (Clinton) and Jennifer Hopkins (St. Petersburg, Fla.); great-grandchildren Camden Hopkins (Fla), Logan Vick (Clinton/Fancy Farm) and Aurora Morgan (Fla.).

Phillip enjoyed life with his 11 siblings: Richard (deceased), Bennette Atwill (Clinton), Butch (Mayfield), Shelia Oliver (Mayfield), Lou Ella Roberts (deceased), Jimmy (Hickman County), Junior (Hickman County), Ronnie (North Carolina), Billy (Texas), Nancy Ballard (Fancy Farm); and Lonnie Joe (Hickman County). From a large family, he also leaves numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Phillip served the Lord, church, and community in many ways, He served as US Navy Chaplain in Vietnam and other posts. He has also served as hospital chaplain, served on Rotary, Habitat for Humanity, as well as executive director of the Hickman County Senior Center.

With degrees from Murray State and Memphis Theological Summary, Phillip served as pastor to several local United Methodist churches including Concord in Paducah, Hickman First UMC, Raleigh UMC in Memphis, Tenn., Troy UMC, and many others. He also pastored in the Virginia Conference. Phillip retired in 2004 and built a home in the Fulgham Community.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 2-8 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Clinton First United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Clinton First UMC. Burial will be later as Phillip wished to donate his body to Genesis Education Research Center in Memphis, continuing his services to his community.
