On Thursday afternoon, September 12, a fire in the Lakewood area heavily damaged a house. While neither occupants nor firefighters were injured in the blaze, according to Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling, “Some house pets perished in the fire.” Medling thanked the Lenox, Bogota, Millsfield, and Fire Departments for their assistance. And in a statement released this morning, Medling said that firefighters acted during “extreme weather conditions [of] high winds and heavy rains.” He added that “Dyer County 911 was very essential in contacting needed resources.” He thanked the Sheriff’s Department for managing traffic control. He concluded, “Everyone did a great job. Dyer County is fortunate to have these dedicated professionals.”
