Dyersburg continued a busy week on the court on Tuesday as the Lady Trojans started off slow but rallied from a first set loss to take the next three sets over Munford to defeat the Lady Cougars in a non-district match in the Terry Glover Gymnasium.

“We have a tendency to start off slow so we really don't stress,” Dyersburg Head Coach De'Licia Ahmad said. “But, around the second set, we started picking it up and kept going from there.

“As long as we keep doing that, we're going to be okay.”

Ahmad also agreed getting off to a better start, especially in next week's District 13AA Tournament, would be more beneficial to their game plan.

Dyersburg fell in the first set on Tuesday night, losing 25-17 but rallied to take the second set 25-13.

The Lady Trojans fell behind in the third set 4-0 before a Kalli Maclin kill put Dyersburg on the board. The black and gold rallied from there, taking an 8-7 lead moments later. Another Maclin kill along with one from Preslee Quertermous put Dyersburg on top 15-11 and were the spark of a long run which ended with a Lady Trojan 25-14 win in the third set.

Dyersburg carried the momentum over into the fourth set as an Addie Gatlin ace built a 6-3 lead for the Lady Trojans. Gatlin and Maclin added kills moments later to keep the Lady Trojans ahead. Dyersburg was able to fend off the Lady Cougars down the stretch as two blocks from Bella Turnage and an Izzie Odom ace along with a Quertermous kill helped give the Lady Trojans a 25-19 set win and clinch the match for the black and gold.

The win added momentum to the Lady Trojans during a busy final week of the season which included four games in four days. Dyersburg also defeated South Side 3-1 on Monday down in Jackson.

“We always tell the girls to go play hard and do what we can,” Ahmad added.

Dyersburg returns to action on Thursday when the Lady Trojans travel to Newbern to take on Dyer County in the final District 13AA game between the two teams beginning at 6 p.m. The Lady Trojans return to Terry Glover Gymnasium on Thursday when the Dyersburg hosts Ripley for Senior Night at 6 p.m.
