Ode to Rachel Abigail
In my mind today it's flooded with memories and thoughts of a gift we were given 16 short years ago, our very own Rachel Abigail Alley. The lesson today my students is to find someone or something that is very dear and write an ode about it. I hear my back row grumbling, "What is an ode? She's getting fruitier by the day." It's simply a poem that shows reverence. It doesn't have to rhyme. It's descriptive so pack in your adjectives! The best part is that it's usually brief or short. Here's my example:
Ode to Rachel Abigail Alley
O dearest Rachel Abigail, with your existence you completed our family tree.
Watching you grow has been the greatest gift.
From toddling through the yard to marching to your own beat, you have given us something priceless and unique.
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit reside in thee.
Witnessing them flourish has been a miracle to see.
Your voice and gift of singing took all of us by surprise.
Listening to you sing makes all of our hearts swell with pride.
Without our "Chuck" there would be such a hole.
The supper table would definitely be incomplete.
As we banter, joke, and enjoy our youngest, the sixteenth year is now among us.
O Rachel Abigail we thank you for filling our lives with glee.
You are a gift sweetest girl we will always enjoy.
Your pre-adult years will dissipate so quickly as we watch you grow into the gift the world should know.
We will not worry now as we embrace you near.
Happy Sixteenth Rachel Abigail our dear!
Children. The love we have for them and the love we get from them is indeed priceless. If you are reading this and have a child, you are very blessed. Gift of family and children I fear are fading away. Today, let them all know that you love them. They are cherished. The length of time with them is unknown. Whether you create a cheesy ode or not, reach out and let them "Feel da Luv."
