Dyersburg City Schools held an end of the summer celebration for students participating in the system's inaugural Early Literacy for Families program on Thursday, July 26. The fun day in the park featured a presentation from wildlife biologist Bob Tarter and five of his unique friends. Tarter, who started the Natural History Educational Company of the Midsouth in 2005, introduced the students to a Chilean tarantula, Arnold the straw-colored fruit bat, Mitch the albino Burmese python, Calvin the fennec fox and Charlie the red kangaroo. After Tarter's presentation, children were treated to booths offering popcorn, face painting, a petting zoo, nutritional education, throwing games and parachute fun.
