Landfill open to non-city businesses

Faced with either opening the Dyersburg landfill to commercial firms outside the city limits or increasing rates charged for residential garbage pickup, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted Monday night to accept trash generated outside the city. Based on a recommendation of the Streets and Sanitation Committee, the board agreed that the city should issue competitive bids to commercial firms in Dyer and surrounding counties for dumping non-hazardous materials at the newly renovated landfill. ...

Man dies in wreck

A 27-year-old Dyersburg man was killed early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Sorrell Chapel Road. Robert Goff, of 195 Memorial Drive, was dead at the scene, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.
