Hugueley wrote in a letter this week to the State Gazette that he intended to kill several other employees when he stabbed a prison counselor in Hardeman County on Jan. 17. "Yes! I killed the bastard," Hugueley wrote. "That was my intention. I also was going to kill several other employees of CCA (Corrections Corp. of America) but unfortunately, for me the handle of my knife broke, so I was without a weapon when the other employees entered the pod."...

The last two trumpeter swans apparently have left Lauderdale Waterfowl Refuge. Dyer County bird-watcher Ken Leggett said the swans were last documented Jan. 20 on the refuge just south of the Dyer-Lauderdale county line. Birders generally believe that the swans migrated north with other waterfowl. Leggett said massive numbers of ducks and geese have been seen flying northward during the recent warm weather...
