City tax revenues up

Mayor Bill Revell on Monday reported that city sales tax revenues were up 6 percent in December compared to the same month a year earlier and he thinks this could be another indication the U.S. economy is on the mend. Like many Dyer Countians, I grew up with only a foggy notion of how this county came to be. I understood there were two almost mythical figures named Henry Rutherford and Robert Dyer, but no one ever attempted to flesh out their characters. I did know that Rutherford had surveyed the land just after the Revolution, and that Dyer had been a hero of the War of 1812, but to my youthful mind it seemed as everything fast forwarded to some kind of land rush in 1823. ...
