A Halls man pleaded guilty to a charge of statutory rape Tuesday in Dyer County Circuit Court and was sentenced to serve a year of supervised probation. Board of Health takes disciplinary action

Shirley R. Noble, a registered nurse in Dyersburg, was assessed a civil penalty of $2,000 by the Tennessee Department of Health's Board of Nursing. The board found last month that Noble had practiced more than six months on a lapsed license. In other DOH actions in May, the Board of Respiratory Care revoked the license of Brett H. Bradford, a respiratory care therapist in Union City, for theft of drugs/syringes from his employer, resulting in a criminal conviction...

Indiana earthquake felt here

Dyer Countians reported feeling the tremors of an earthquake that occurred in southern Indiana 12:37 p.m. Tuesday. An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was recorded 9 miles northwest of Evansville, Ind. Chris Cramer, a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey office in Memphis, said the earthquake was felt as far away as Memphis, Nashville, the Great Lakes region, St. Louis, Mo., and maybe even in West Virginia...
