City files motion to nullify monetary damage claims in beer permit lawsuit

A company whose beer permit was suspended by the Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen is not eligible for monetary damages, a motion filed in chancery court last month contends. The motion filed Aug. 15 by Milan attorney Fred Collins and Dyersburg attorney Hal Boyd on behalf of the city of Dyersburg claims that a complaint against the city by Cox Oil Company of Union City, doing business in Dyersburg as Little General store on Harrell Avenue, is in error in asking for monetary relief, including attorney's fees.. ...

An income tax for Tennessee is dead - for at least the next governor's first term, State Rep. Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley, told members of the Dyersburg Kiwanis Club on Wednesday. A 131-kilovolt post insulator on a power pole in front of Tigrett and Pennington Insurance on south U.S. Highway 51 Bypass failed at about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, causing a widespread power outage that lasted 80 minutes along an almost two-mile stretch of the road. "We had an insulator fail near the State Gazette and the Tigrett and Pennington Insurance Agency," said Steve Lane, vice president for customer relations for the Dyersburg Electric System.
