Dyer Fabrics reportedly buys HIS plants in Hickman, Ky., for yarn manufacture

Published reports in western Kentucky claim Dyer Fabrics has purchased a clothing factory in Hickman, Ky., and plans to operate it as Hickman Mills. But the company's secretary-treasurer appeared Tuesday to contradict the reports. "We did buy the buildings, but we're not sure we're going to do anything with it yet," said Neal Wall. "The property was available and we need to make long-range plans so we bought it for the future."...

PolyOne to cut salaried positions

First Citizens National Bank and its Board of Directors became the first statewide recipient of a new award for philanthropy given by the Tennessee Board of Regents. The local bank received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Philanthropy for their support of Dyersburg State Community College in a ceremony on Tuesday. Man sentenced for attempted sexual assault of niece

A Dyersburg man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Dyer County Circuit Court to a charge of attempted aggravated sexual battery of his niece and was sentenced to serve five years in prison. Eddie Ray Yarbro, 38, of 1504 Shelby Drive, entered a best interest plea because he disputes the facts as told by his nieces. ...

The Dyersburg Middle School Lady Trojans won a key road victory Monday, defeating Lake County 41-37 and winning the top seed for the conference tournament. DMS wasted no time, jumping out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter with Cali Cupples contributing 10. Cupples went on to lead the Dyersburg scorers with 20 points. Last week, in the return to the business of government for 2003, members voted from the party's majority status to roll back reforms they installed in the 1994 takeover of both houses of Congress. I recall how thrilled I was when they ridded the place of ice buckets in the elevator, a wasteful tradition, and a slew of other things. But now it seems as if the power of the majority has blurred common sense...
