Accused killer Jamie Bailey is competent to stand trial for first-degree murder, Dyer County Circuit Judge Lee Moore ruled late Tuesday. "There is sufficient evidence that the defendant has a rational as well as a factual understanding of the proceedings against him and further that the defendant has the mental ability to consult with his attorney with a reasonable degree of rational understanding," Moore wrote in the order denying a motion to dismiss charges against Bailey because of damage to his brain caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.. ...

Juvenile animal cruelty case continued until June 18

Four boys charged with animal cruelty at the Dyer County High School model farm had their cases continued until June 18 Wednesday in Dyer County Juvenile Court. Christian school changes name, drops upper grades

First Presbyterian Christian School will both change its name and drop its upper grades next fall, reflecting a major change in the school's approach to teaching. According to Mark Reisner, FPCS principal, when the school reopens in the fall it will be called Christ Classical Academy (CCA). Only grades K-6 will be taught there. Attempt to obtain controlled substance by fraud brings three-year prison sentence

A Dyersburg man pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud in Dyer County Circuit Court Tuesday and was sentenced to serve three years in prison. Brent Anthony Alexander, 22, of 2335 Federal Drive, and a co-defendant, Robert Shane Whalley, obtained a prescription from a doctor in Dyersburg, altered it to include a painkiller and tried to have it filled at a pharmacy in Lake County on Nov. ...
