City approves $20,000 for old DMS upgrade

The Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen in a special called meeting Tuesday morning found $20,000 in unused funds from the 2002-03 budget to apply to the upgrade of the old Dyersburg Middle School on College Hill. City Board makes tax increase official

The Dyersburg City Board meeting in a special session Tuesday morning made a tax increase from the current rate of $1.57 to $1.72 official by a 6-to-1 vote. Aldermen Bob Dean and Dennis Moody were absent. A statement in the State Gazette on Friday said the 15-cent tax increase would cause the taxes on an approximate $100,000 home in the city to go up by $19. Not far from McCulloch's Chapel, about 3 miles west of town, is a lone grave sitting on a small mound, inscribed with the name Alexander McCulloch. This is the old homestead site of the McCulloch family, and it was very near this location that young Ben McCulloch had camped under a Sugar Tree, just before the family built their Cabin.
