Street committee orders knuckle-boom purchase

The Dyersburg city board has discussed the purchase of a "knuckle boom," a device used primarily to lift and haul away fallen limbs and logs, for the last five years, but failed to follow through on a purchase. On Wednesday the city's street committee said the time for discussion was at an end and ordered purchasing agent Greg Williams to buy one of the units from the Ramer company although some aldermen favored more time for comparison studies of competitive models...

Visiting a foreign country for an extended period of time is a virtual guarantee of culture shock to one degree or another. That can be either good or bad depending upon the person and the circumstances. For Markus Bischoff of Germany, culture shock has been a very good thing. He had no idea what to expect when he was told to spend a year in Dyersburg, but what the 23-year-old exchange student has found here has come as a pleasant surprise...

Andre Flowers continues to bloom for the Dyer County Choctaws. The rookie running back recorded 109 yards in his first high school football game last week at Dyersburg and hopes to produce similar numbers when Gibson County visits Newbern Friday.
