City to purchase land adjacent to landfill

The Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday night on a recommendation by the street and sanitation committee to purchase 89 acres adjacent to the eastern edge of the current municipal landfill on Sorrells Chapel Road. The purchase price for the land is $1,600 per acre, which, according to city recorder Gleyn Twilla, is considered a fair-market value for mixed farmland and undeveloped woods in that area. ...

A Dyer County man, who was supposed to reimburse the state $46,938 for the cleanup of a local hazardous waste site, is a little late in making his payments. Jere Ellis agreed on Oct. 2, 2001, to pay 22.27 percent of the costs incurred when the Tennessee Division of Superfund cleaned the old William Heathcott site.
