A lawsuit has been filed against the city of Newbern in circuit court in which a Dyer County woman claims to have been infected by bacteria in the public water system that caused her to be airlifted to a Jackson hospital. Diana Pack said that on July 29, 2003, during a boil-water advisory for Newbern, she fell ill and was diagnosed with "pseudomonas aeruginosa sepsis." The bacterium caused her to be airlifted to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment, which included "extended hospitalization, antibiotic treatment and blood transfusions" costing in excess of $77,000. ...
