Toy drive moves to Newbern parade

A toy drive that was to be conducted during the Dyersburg Christmas Parade has been rescheduled. It will be held Thursday night during the Newbern Rotary Christmas Parade. Rain forced the cancellation of the Dyersburg parade on Monday night. The Dyer County Sheriff's Department, Mid-South Riders and Boss Hoss are teaming up to conduct the toy drive. Any motorcyclist who wishes to ride in the parade can participate by bringing a toy valued at $10 or more...

A touch of home going to the 230th

Since the women of Harvest Baptist Church knew the holidays would be a sad time for the members of the 230th Area Support Group who are currently serving in Kuwait, they decided to send them a touch of home made with love. Scientists: Black Swamp levee not a good idea

A plan to construct a levee and flood Black Swamp isn't likely to result in good waterfowl hunting, two wetland ecologists have concluded. Gov. Phil Bredesen asked the scientists to review the proposal nearly a year ago. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency planned to build an 860-foot-long, 5-foot-tall levee to trap water in Black Swamp, a wooded wetland located about 17 miles northeast of Trimble on Highway 89. Missing Jackson man's body found near Middle City

Dyer County Sheriff's Department personnel are investigating the death of a Jackson man whose body was found late Friday afternoon west of Dyersburg. "Two hunters found a body Friday afternoon on the bank of the Forked Deer River behind the Middle City community," said Capt. Larry Bell of the sheriff's department.
