WinterFest Encampment held at fairgrounds

Rained failed to dampen the enthusiasm of 730 Boy Scouts and adult leaders this weekend, who converged on the Dyer County Fairgrounds for an annual overnight encampment. According to Jim Matlock of Jackson, who is chairman of WinterFest 2005, said scout troops of the West Tennessee Council were invited to the event which included winter activities like sled-making and racing competition, a "polar bear swim," broomstick hockey," cooking competition and football. ...

DSCC center now a national EMT testing site

The Dyersburg State Community College Jimmy Naifeh Center has been named as an open testing site by the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians in Columbus, Ohio. An open designation indicates that any qualified candidate may test at this site regardless of where they trained or reside. Grain conference expected to set record

The Tennessee Grain and Soybean Producers Conference is expected to attract a record crowd on Thursday. Blame it on soybean rust, a fungus that can quickly decimate the soybean crop. Rust was a foreign concept until late last fall, when hurricane winds blew it north from South America to most of the Southeastern United States.
