Bike-a-thon to benefit St. Jude

Children who participate in the St. Jude Wheels-For-Life Bike-A-Thon on April 16 could win a new bicycle, a $50 savings bond and more. The bike-a-thon is open to all children up to fifth grade. County committee tentatively votes to recommend honoring county's obligation to Dyersburg to replace fire truck.

Dyer County's budget committee tentatively agreed Tuesday to recommend to the full county commission a payment of $125,000 over five years to satisfy the county's obligation under a 1984 contract. In 1984 then-Dyer County Executive Kenneth Westbrook and Dyersburg Mayor Bill Revell signed a contract under which Dyersburg would provide subscription rural fire service within a six-mile radius of the city limits and the county agreed to buy fire-fighting equipment over three years for the city...
