City OKs committee to negotiate new airport contract

The Dyersburg City Board on Monday night granted the Airport Committee the conditional right to enter contract negotiations with current fixed-base operator and airport manager Monte Warne. The committee was instructed to study all proposed changes to the existing contract and approve those deemed to serve the interests of Dyersburg and Dyer County. Committee chairman Bob Dean said the committee would return for a vote of the board if any changes were deemed as "controversial."...

County to lose homeland security funding

County fire chief James Medling has no idea how much Dyer County will receive from the Department of Homeland Security, but he is certain that it will be less than any previous year. Possibly, much less. Medling, who is the director of Dyer County Emergency Management, the agency that distributes local funds doled out from Washington and Nashville, pointed out that the state of Tennessee received about $36 million from DHS in 2005. ...

Two taxi drivers robbed at gunpoint

Dyersburg Police are seeking a man suspected in the armed robberies of two taxi drivers in the last week. The latest assault occurred on Tucker Street at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday when a taxi driver was hit repeatedly with a handgun after a man described as a 6-foot-tall black male in his late 20s demanded money.
