Neighborhood evacuated for chemical leak

A chemical tank at the Sara Lee plant on Biffle Road north of Newbern was damaged by the tornado and began leaking poisonous ammonia gas at 8 p.m. Sunday. Newbern Fire Chief Phillip Cotrell said about a square mile east of the plant was evacuated for two hours.
