Dyersburg Public Works employees saw her darting in and out of traffic on Johnson Street near the Lewis Avenue intersection. Commission to consider altering minimum lot size for zoning

During its August meeting Monday at 7 p.m. the county commission will consider changes in lot size for Dyersburg's Urban Growth Zone. The changes would lower minimum lot size from one acre to 3/4 acre and lot width at the building line from 150 to 125 feet. The changes were requested by the Dyersburg Regional Planning Commission and would mean lots would likely be deeper to accommodate septic systems...

Today, each of us has a 1 in 1,200 chance of a house fire, a 1 in 360 chance of having a wreck, and a 1 in 3 chance of needing long-term health care. Most people have insurance to protect their homes and their motor vehicles. That's not necessarily true for long-term health care needs...

Bank files response to Sells complaint

First Tennessee Bank claimed Thursday it is not responsible for any losses suffered by Dyersburg entrepreneur Darrell Sells or his family. In a response filed Thursday to Sells' lawsuit against the bank, First Tennessee also claims Sells, his wife and his children contributed to any losses they may have suffered. The response by the bank was filed in Dyer County Chancery Court by Memphis attorneys Stephen W. Ragland and Clarence Wilbon and Dyersburg attorney Marianna Williams...

Child rape case sent to grand jury for decision

A Tiptonville man who is charged in multiple counts of sexual misconduct against a 13-year-old girl whom he ran away with last month is now in the custody of the Lake County Sheriff's office, with a bond set at $100,000. Danny Lee Haynes, 23, who has already had a preliminary hearing, is set to go before the grand jury for formal indictment in November, according to Lake County court officials...

Software, state decision blocks voting reports

More than a week after the Aug. 3 state primary and county general election, the problem with getting precinct totals appears to be a software problem complicated by a state official's decision. "We don't have them yet," Dyer County Election Administrator Jane Heathcott said Thursday. "The software and the state won't let us go into the early votes to combine precinct totals with the precinct totals cast on Election Day."...

Last week saw more candidates and potential candidates emerge for the Nov. 7 Dyersburg and Trimble city elections. With less than a week to go before Thursday's noon qualifying deadline, seven more candidates picked up petitions and four submitted petitions.
