Fired worker sues Newbern for $200,000, return of job

The Newbern Electric System employee fired in July 2006 for allegedly being intoxicated during weekend standby duty filed suit on Tuesday asking for his job back and $200,000 in damages. Jerry Irby said in the complaint the city and NES failed to follow its employment rules by not testing him for an intoxicant immediately after he was reported. Irby denies he was incapacitated on June 26, at the time he was called out to repair a light at the city's riding arena...

One escapee turns himself in to sheriff; other nabbed in hotel room

The Dyersburg man charged with murder who escaped from the Crockett County Jail on Friday turned himself in on Monday night -- to Lauderdale County Sheriff Steve Sanders, reportedly at Sander's Ripley home. Eugene Spivey, 29, of 308 Wilson Circle, reportedly turned himself in to the sheriff at about 8 p.m. He was taken to the Lauderdale County Jail, where he was awaiting to be picked up by Crockett County deputies today...

Armed robbery reported at restaurant

Police are searching for two men as suspects in the armed robbery Monday night of the Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant at 2435 Lake Rd. A 911 call at 10:16 p.m. reported three males wearing masks and gloves who were armed with guns robbed the eatery, then forced employees into the freezer. ...
