Monroe Activity Center preparing for summer trip; participants, sponsors sought for 55 children

With summer around the bend, Monroe Activity Center is preparing for its annual trip. This year, it will be to the St. Louis area. The seven-day, six-night visit is slated for July 23-29. The trip is open to 55 first- through eighth-graders. Applications will be taken from noon until 5 p.m. beginning Saturday at the MAC office, located at 400 North Grayson Street in Newbern. Laser tag ramp takes center stage at trial

A ramp from the former Upon This Rock laser tag arena was carried into the Dyer County Circuit Courtroom on Tuesday. One edge of the ramp surface was placed on a sawhorse to simulate the slope of the ramp when it was a part of the laser tag maze. As Dyersburg area Girl Scouts prepare this week to celebrate the 95th birthday of organization, a sweeping realignment will merge the 18-county Reelfoot Council with three other councils in Tennessee and Mississippi. Dog bites city meter reader

A Dyersburg city meter reader was attacked by a dog and bitten on Monday. According to the police report, Darrell Gibson had entered the backyard of the home at 918 Morning Rd. and opened a door in the six-foot wooden fence surrounding the lawn to read the meter when he was attacked by the dog.
