Winners announced in Walk Across Tennessee competition

The Ultimate Family Organization proved to be the ultimate Walk Across Tennessee team in this year's competition. The team won the eight-week community exercise contest by accumulating 5,096 miles. Teams earn mileage by walking, running and participating in other forms of exercise. Manager of water plant was fired

The manager of the service that operates the Newbern Water Plant was fired last week, the Newbern Board of Mayor and Aldermen learned on Tuesday. No reason was given for the termination of Jim Cooper, who had worked at the plant for Severn Trent Environmental Services, the private company that runs the plant for the city, for 10 years. Interim plant manager Bob Mains told the board "human resources and safety" issues were the reasons that prompted the action...
