Groundwater sampling at waste site expected to continue

A crew expects to spend the rest of the week obtaining groundwater samples in and around the former Solid and Liquid Waste Disposal Company site. The sampling is part of a cleanup effort by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's Division of Remediation. The waste disposal company, which was closed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1985, reportedly buried industrial wastes in the field behind its offices on Roger Menzies Road...

Schools chief drops method after request for documents

Anonymous teachers evaluations will no longer be used as a tool to evaluate principals, Dyersburg City Schools Superintendent Lloyd Ramer said Wednesday, because they are available to the public. The move was prompted by a request from the State Gazette to examine the evaluations of principals by teachers, he said. This year is the first time teachers were able to write anonymous evaluations about principals' job performances...
