Shingles dumped, then set on fire near abandoned bridge north of Trimble

Warrants have been prepared for the arrest of men seen Saturday dumping loads of asphalt shingles on an abandoned road north of Trimble. According to the Dyer County Sheriff's Department report, Obion residents noticed smoke drifting upward from the south end of the Obion River bridge on the closed old Highway 51 road to Trimble at about 6 p.m. Saturday. Newbern water, sewer rates hiked to pay for upgrade

It was good news and bad news for citizens of Newbern Thursday night during a public hearing by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. While the board voted to lower the monthly gas rate by 10 percent, a motion was passed to add $15 per month to residential sewer bills.
