Lead plaintiff trying to get out of lawsuit for mill fire suffering

The first plaintiff in the multimillion lawsuit against several parties for damages from the Dyersburg Fabrics fire has asked to be removed from the action after he discovered his name had been used without permission. Chad Kindle, who was listed first among seven individuals seeking millions of dollars in relief for health and economic damages from the fire, said he was "shocked and sickened" to read in the Sunday, Aug. 5 edition of the State Gazette his name on the lawsuit...

After months, 13-year-old patient comes back home

After 15 weeks of waking up in a hospital room, 13-year-old Dillon LaRue is finally able to sleep in his own bed again. Three weeks ago, doctors at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gave his delighted family the green light to bring him home. Funding cuts place education program in trouble

The agency charged with improving the community by educating adults to become better readers and improve their quality of life is suffering an unprecedented loss of funding with the cancellation of a federal grant. Formerly known as the Dyer County Literacy Program, the local program changed its name to Dyer County Adult Education in May, but with the end of the Federal Family First Grant causing a $72,000 reduction in funding -- more then half the annual budget -- the organization's money is so tight the group does not even have enough extra to pay for a new sign.. ...

The August meeting of the Dyersburg City Board of Education was a busy one, with school board representatives passing the first reading of several new policies, granting three new teachers tenure and hearing reports from Superintendent Lloyd Ramer. Man arrested twice in three days on drug charges -- at same house

A Dyersburg man was arrested twice in three days on felony drug charges in the same house. Jonathan Robinson, 30, of 1818 Harris and 1851 Curry streets, was first arrested by Dyersburg Police at the Curry address on Tuesday. A search warrant found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the house. Robinson was arrested and lodged into the Dyer County Jail at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday on a $3,000 bond. He was able to make the bond and released at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, jail records show...
