The Newbern Board of Mayor and Alderman unanimously passed the city's dog ordinance Tuesday during the regularly scheduled meeting. City officials are now looking at several options to get a handle on the number of dogs running at large. "One possibility would be to call the dog catcher and set aside one day where all of (the police officers) do nothing but catch these dogs," said Police Chief Harold Dunivant. "If we work alongside the dog catcher, we could get a lot accomplished."...

A truckload of ground-up fish guts may not sound appetizing to you, but it looked like a bountiful feast to hungry bald eagles in Kodiak, Alaska. More than 50 eagles swarmed the truck and its smelly cargo on Friday, Jan. 11. The fish-gut slurry sucked eagles down like quicksand, and the weight of new arrivals pushed even more eagles into the mix. Twenty eagles drowned on the spot. Board sustains penalty against officer for sexual harassment call

The city Personnel Merit Board on Thursday upheld the Dyersburg Police Department's two-day suspension without pay of an officer who was involved in a September 2007 sexual harassment case. Former patrolman Donald Aaron Brezinski appealed to the board to have the suspension reconsidered. Brezinski, who left the department for another job before receiving the penalty, said he wanted the issue removed from his personnel record...

Merit board blasted by lawyer for reliance on city attorney

The attorney representing fired Dyersburg police investigator Jim Porter lambasted the city Personnel Merit Board on Thursday for relying on the city attorney's office for doing the work of the board.
