Newbern man convicted in federal court

A Newbern man was convicted in U.S. District Court in Memphis on Wednesday on five counts of felony firearm possession. Larry Ammons, 46, of 131 Weakley St., faces from 25 years to life in prison. A sentencing date has not been scheduled. Ammons was one of nine local residents indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2006 for violating federal firearms laws...

Airport repair under way after lightning damage
