Hurricane Ike uproots 70-year-old tree

Hurricane Ike made it's way to Dyersburg about 4am this morning. The fierce winds uprooted this 95 foot tall Pecan Tree on Highway 104 East at the home of Marty Moody. Moody said the tree was planted in 1938 when the house was built. The pecan tree fell onto a power line. Other wind damage in the area included tree limbs, debris and shingles flying around. As of 8am this morning, no other major damage had been reoported...

Dyersburg Planning Commission denies de-annexation

The city of Dyersburg Municipal-Regional Planning Commission chose not to recommend de-annexation for the last portion of undeveloped land in The Farms subdivision at its meeting Thursday morning. Johnny and Judy Burks came before the commission to request de-annexing the 59 remaining acres of property at last month's meeting. The team has no plans to further develop the area for residential housing. The acreage is being used for farmland at this time, with no city services currently available...
