City board approves updating of traffic signals

Several Dyersburg residents who live near the traffic lights at Troy, Oak and Gordon streets attended Monday evening's meeting of the city board to share their view of the fate of the outdated stoplights. The 24th annual Community Cancer Barbecue drew hundreds of people to the Veterans' Square in Dyersburg on Friday to support a wonderful cause and enjoy some good, old-fashioned cooking. Man placed on probation after high-speed chase

A Dyersburg man who led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase from Samburg through Hickman, Ky., will be on probation for 10 years. Charles Mims, 42, 328 Victory Ave., pleaded guilty Sept. 25 in Fulton County (Ky.) District Court to one count each of wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading arrest. He was sentenced to five years of probation in each count and must serve those sentences consecutively...

Lake County man arrested for statutory rape

A Lake County resident, Julius Olajuan McElrath, was arrested Thursday on charges of statutory rape of a 17-year-old female. McElrath, who is 23 years old, and the female had been in an ongoing sexual relationship for the past few months. McElrath, a convicted sex offender, is on the Tennessee sex offender registry for statutory rape in a case dating back to 2005...
